“We believe the transition to Life.Church creates the opportunity to share and talk about the church in a natural way,” Bobby Gruenewald, Life.Church pastor-innovation leader said in a church press release. “Plus, it’s a more effective way for people to find and identify us as a church, too.”

The Covenant congregation’s release stated that the change also is in anticipation of the ministry’s twentieth anniversary in 2016. This is the fourth name for the church, which previously was Life Covenant Church, Life Church, and LifeChurch.tv.

“When we chose LifeChurch.tv about 10 years ago, there were limited options for churches claiming a space online.” Gruenewald said. “Along with thousands of other churches, we are excited to take advantage of the new .church domain as way to share our mission with the world.”

The .church domain is one of hundreds of top-level domains newly approved by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, ICANN, including brand-specific domains as well as generic domains like .gifts, .movie, and .guru.

Life.Church was started by Craig Groeschel, as a Covenant congregation, in 1996 in a two-car garage. The church now has 24 locations in Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Florida, New York, Kansas, and New Mexico. According to the news release, the multi-site church draws more than 70,000 people to its services each weekend. The church also has an online presence through Life.Church Online (live.life.church).

The church is internationally known for its free YouVersion Bible App and Bible App for Kids.
