Church Worships Outside after Car Smashes into Sanctuary

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL (August 3, 2015) — Hope Covenant Church was forced to hold its worship service outdoors Sunday because a car had smashed through its building on Saturday night.

Although the accident caused extensive damage to the building, the driver suffered only minor injuries, according to news reports. The building was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

The Crystal Lake Fire Department was summoned to the building at 8:37 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of the accident.

“A young man was coming fast around a bend, went over a median, bottomed out in our parking lot, and then tore and screeched through the parking lot,” pastor Lisa Orris said. The vehicle continued down the church hallway and into the sanctuary.

The car remained in the church sanctuary Sunday morning while officials continued to investigate the accident.
