Obituary: David McDowell

ELLSWORTH, WI (February 4, 2014) — Retired Covenant pastor David McDowell,  62, died Saturday.

McDowell was born September 7, 1951, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Michigan University and a master of divinity from North Park Theological Seminary.

He married Diane Mott on June 21, 1980. She survives.

McDowell served the Evangelical Covenant Church in Warroad, Minnesota, and Bethel Covenant Church in Ellsworth. He planted the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota,

Survivors include three sons, Joshua McDowell (Shelby) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Seth McDowell of Minneapolis, and Aaron McDowell (Chelsea) of Chicago; a daughter, Hannah Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the church. Visitation will be one hour before as well as from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

  • Praying for you, Diane, on the loss of your earthly spouse. He is walking the streets of gold but praying that you will be comforted by our heavenly healer as only he can.

  • Because of health issues, David was out of the loop for a long time. He surfaced on occasion, always with a sense of hope. He was faithful, loyal, long-suffering and something else you don’t much when it comes to pastors: he was tough. He was one of the toughest people I ever met. In the best sense of the word, too; he could take it. And now he doesn’t have to any more. Now he can rest.
