Meyer to Conclude Service at End of Year

CHICAGO, IL (February 29, 2012) – Donald L. Meyer will retire at the end of this year, concluding 15 years of service as executive minister of the Department of Communication of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), it was announced today.

“I feel I have completed the work God called me here to do,” Meyer said. “I also believe it is a good time for new, younger leadership with a fresh vision to join in building upon the strong communications foundation that has been developed by a talented team with whom I have been privileged to work.”

A search for a replacement will begin in the fall, said ECC President Gary Walter, who also noted that Meyer’s continued involvement throughout that process will help ensure an orderly transition in leadership.

“Don has been a valued part of Covenant leadership since he began his work at Covenant Offices in August of 1997,” Walter said, “and has led the department through an amazing transformation during his tenure. In addition to oversight of the award-winning Companion and many other print publications, Don led his team in creating our website and improving our online presence as well as integrating social media and mobile technologies. In recent years, the addition of a video production team has opened broader avenues of communication, allowing live video streaming of our events as well as production of countless DVDs and online videos on Covenant ministries. And as much as I appreciate Don’s tireless work, I appreciate even more his heart for ministry with which he accomplishes it.

“Communication is key to deepening our identity and cohesion,” Walter added, “and Don and his team have made sure we can do it even more effectively.”

Meyer and his wife, Wendy, who serves as office coordinator in the Anesthesiology Department at Swedish Covenant Hospital, will relocate to their home in Arizona.

  • What a gift Don has been to the Covenant! I had the privilege to serve on the Communications Board for several years during Don’s early years. He has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to navigate the many moving pieces within the Covenant community and bring a coherent communications strategy that always begins with great content leveraged with the right technology. Thanks be to God for his faithful service!

  • Don has been and is a gift from God to our Covenant family, transforming the ways we still remain connected and challanged/encouraged in the ECC – many thanks. He will be greatly missed when he turns over his gavel. He is a Christian layman who demonstrates the three qualities of spiritual leaderships: being faithful, availab,e and teachable.

  • With many fond memories and good wishes on your retirement and relocation – we just
returned from a short vacation in Scottsdale, AZ – great country. God Bless you and yours!!

  • A job well done Don! Thank you for your service. I will always remember your wonderful assistance to me and our church after our church fire in August 1998 (including your follow up for years after). God be with you as you prepare to embark on a new transition in your life. Rev. Jeffrey Jones, Biwabik Covenant Church, Biwabik MN
