Vikings Fall in First Round of NCAA Tournament

DECORAH, IA (November 14, 2011) – The North Park men’s soccer team finished its 2011 season with a 4-1 loss to Luther College of Iowa in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament Saturday night in Decorah, Iowa.

Many fans made the trip west as the official attendance was announced at 800, with nearly half the crowd from North Park in support of the squad.

The Vikings lone score came in the 88th minute when sophomore Jakob Aronsson tallied his first goal of the season unassisted.

Luther came into the contest with a 15-win season, but North Park showed why it was ranked nationally all year as the Vikings kept things close throughout.

Junior Tim Ahlberg suffered the loss, only his fourth of the year, as he played all 90 minutes, making six saves.

North Park ends the season with an 11-4-3 record, which included a five-game winning streak, and a second-place finish in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
