In 2009 Matthew woke up in the middle of the night sensing God suddenly telling him, “Here’s what you’re going to do with your life.” That was his first idea for Serve a Little, the nonprofit he started with the goal of connecting people who need small “helps” with those who can provide it. Most of the people they work with are single mothers, and the most common service is auto repair. As a result, they will soon be opening a nonprofit automotive shop.

Matthew says he developed much of his philosophy for helping people help others through his home church of Redwood Covenant.

“I couldn’t think of a better fit for what I would say God designed me to do,” he says.
