EVERETT, WA (December 14, 2015) — First Covenant Church in Everett is one of several congregations from across the country that are the focus of an article about churches that have been revitalized for the future by looking at their past.
“There are radical, life-giving stories locked up in your church archives,” says John Wenrich, the denomination’s director of congregational vitality.
Jason Mohn, First Covenant’s pastor, says the congregation of 100 that dates back to 1903 discovered that it had a long history of innovation. Throughout that history, the church has been willing to make big changes and use the latest technology of the day. The article notes several of the innovations that included using radio for a young peoples’ broadcast in the 1930s when that technology was still relatively new.
Mohn now has a reply for people who say, “We’ve never done that before.” He tells them, “We have done this before. We can do it again.”
