Rolling Hills Celebrates Opening of New Building

ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, CA (September 24, 2014) — Rolling Hills Covenant Church will celebrate the grand opening of its Children’s and Administration Building at noon, Saturday, October 4.

Following the dedication, there will be a reception and tours of the new facility. The event is open to the public.

“This is the day we have all been waiting for,” said senior pastor Byron MacDonald. “We are excited that God has equipped RHCC to reach out to families with God’s love and truth. Our new facilities will allow us to respond to Jesus’ call in Luke 18:16, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’ ”

The two-story building is 16,284 square feet. The first floor is dedicated to children’s ministries and includes four large classrooms, a drama room, and three new playgrounds—one each for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children. In Kid Central, located in the downstairs lobby, staff are available to greet families and check children into age-appropriate classrooms.

Rolling Hills Covenant Church was founded in 1957 and serves approximately 2,500 individuals. It offers nine worship services each weekend, including one in Japanese.

Fanny Crosby Comes to Life at Covenant Shores

MERCER ISLAND, WA (September 24, 2014) — Residents of Covenant Shores Retirement Community were treated to an evening of living history recently when 95-year-old Ruth Eckels impersonated celebrated hymn writer Fanny Crosby during an evening that featured nine of her best-known compositions.

Eckels, who studied drama at the Chicago Evangelistic Institute in 1939, is a frequent participant in dramas and musicals on campus.

In preparation for portraying Crosby, the blind lyricist who wrote some 8,000 hymns, Eckels did research and committed to memory much of her presentation. Crosby’s hymns have been part of every Covenant hymnal for the past 100 years. Her hymns included “To God Be the Glory” and “Blessed Assurance.” She died in 1915 one month shy of her 95th birthday.
