LENEXA, KS (August 1, 2014) — Retired Covenant minister Glenn LeRoy Lindell, 94, died on Wednesday, July 30.
A lifelong Covenanter, he was born on June 23, 1920, in Ceresco, Nebraska. He married Maynette Sellin in 1944.
A graduate of North Park Theological Seminary and Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, he served numerous Covenant churches, including congregations in Marquette, Kansas; Galesburg, Illinois; and Provdience, Rhode Island. In 1961 he became the founding pastor of Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where he remained until 1969. During his tenure, Hillcrest became one of the fastest-growing Covenant churches at the time. He viewed church growth and stewardship as areas of strength in his ministry. He also was an active supporter of civil rights.
Rev. Lindell’s last pastorate was at Urban Heights Covenant Church in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1981 to 1983. He served at the offices of the ECC’s Midwest Conference from 1983 until his retirement in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Maynette, and daughter, Sandra Lindell Anderson. He was preceded in death by his son, Stuart, who passed away in 2008. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Covenant Church, 8801 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Kansas.
