LENEXA, KS (August 1, 2014) — Retired Covenant minister Glenn LeRoy Lindell, 94, died on Wednesday, July 30.
A lifelong Covenanter, he was born on June 23, 1920, in Ceresco, Nebraska. He married Maynette Sellin in 1944.
A graduate of North Park Theological Seminary and Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, he served numerous Covenant churches, including congregations in Marquette, Kansas; Galesburg, Illinois; and Provdience, Rhode Island. In 1961 he became the founding pastor of Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, Kansas, where he remained until 1969. He also was an active supporter of civil rights.
Rev. Lindell’s last pastorate was at Urban Heights Covenant Church in Des Moines, Iowa, from 1981 to 1983. He served at the offices of the ECC’s Midwest Conference from 1983 until his retirement in 1985.

Glenn was the one who persuaded me to go to North Park when he was my counselor at CHIC 64. I respected him so much that, had my wife and I had a son, his name would have been Glenn. My heartfelt love to your entire family. I have lost a wonderful friend and faithful servant of our Lord.
Glenn Lindell was a great encouragement to me during my first pastorate at the old First Covenant Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He always took in an interest in and had a good word for us back at ‘the mother church!’
Glenn will be missed. Peace to his memory.
Peace to the family and memory of Glenn Lindell. I remember Glenn and Maynette well-blessed servants of the Lord.
Pastor Glen Lindell was my pastor in very formative years in Riverside, Rhode Island. He confirmed and baptized me and helped me to begin to discern God’s call on my life into pastoral ministry. Peace to his memory.
Glenn was a good friend and colleague for many years. He had the heart of an evangelist. Peace to his memory.
Not mentioned in the obituary were the years Glenn served as Covenant Director of Evangelism before moving to Kansas to found the Hillcrest Covenant Church. Those were the years we worked with him at Covenant Offices, Eloise on the Covenant Companion staff and LeRoy as manager of the Covenant Press Bookstore. Glenn was an enthusiastic and vibrant denominational leader and friend to all he met. We were happy to visit Glenn and Maynette a year ago at Covenant Place of Lenexa, Kansas.
Glenn Lindell had just started his retirement in 1985 by returning to Overland Park Ks. At the same time, I commenced my lengthy tenure at Hillcrest and was fortunate to observe and experience this special man. We had wonderful fellowship and I quickly learned of his great love for Hillcrest and many individuals from his early days at HCC. I thank the Lord for the many opportunities to serve alongside Glenn in all manner of ministry. Praise Be To God for Glenn’s faithful service!
