Yee Nominated to Lead North Pacific Conference

CHICAGO, IL (February 5, 2013) – Greg Yee, associate superintendent of the Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC), has been nominated to serve as superintendent of the North Pacific Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), it was announced today.

His nomination has been approved by the ECC Executive Board. If approved by delegates to the North Pacific Conference annual meeting this spring, Yee will be installed as superintendent during the ECC Annual Meeting June 27-30 in Detroit, Michigan.

“We are excited, encouraged and blessed to be calling Greg Yee,” said Jim Sequiera, conference search committee chair in announcing the selection. “We are excited by Greg’s innovative thinking, his leadership experience at the conference and denominational levels and his deep commitment to the mission of the church. We also are encouraged by Greg’s ability to build and nurture healthy friendships among pastors and lay people, his desire to connect churches within the North Pacific Conference and the ECC, and the respect he has earned from those who have served with him. We are blessed by Greg’s humility and non-anxious presence, his passion for God and God’s mission, and his love and commitment to his family. “We are grateful.”

Yee has served as PSWC associate superintendent since 2003, focusing in areas of multiethnic ministries, church planting, and church development, working especially with pastors and churches in transition.

A graduate of the University of California-Davis, Yee completed his Master of Divinity degree at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He completed the Covenant Orientation Program and has participated in the John Perkins Institute.

A social worker in the early part of his career, Yee served as a corporate development administrator with the Wrigley Gum Company in Chicago before pursuing ministry, serving as church planter at Parkwood Community in Villa Park, Illinois, as interim pastor at Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, and as pastor of New Gen Ministries with Mien Covenant in Sacramento, California.

He has been active in a number of Covenant ministries, boards and commissions including the Board of the Ordered Ministry, as an instructor and coordinator with Covenant Orientation – Mission and Ministry, as a member of the Covenant World Relief Advisory Board, as a member of the Asian American Ministers Association, and as a member of the Covenant Ethnic Commission.

“Greg was selected at the end of a careful and prayerful process that included a final interview pool of very gifted and godly people,” said ECC President Gary Walter. Greg has been instrumental in several Covenant-wide initiatives,” he noted. “I am quite enthused for how Greg could advance our mission and ministry.”

Walter introduced Yee as the nominee during evening receptions hosted by both the North Pacific and Pacific Southwest conferences as part of Monday’s opening of the 2013 Midwinter Conference under way in San Diego, California.

“The North Pacific Conference is in a season of tremendous opportunity to reach their very diverse region,” Yee said in explaining his decision to accept the nomination. “The conference churches share a deep sense of mission together,” he observed. “I look forward to joining a wonderful team and working together with wonderful churches to see how the kingdom will continue to unfold in that four-state region. We’re excited about the opportunity to explore a greater expression of the mosaic and together see how we can continue to encourage healthy churches, plant new churches, and continue to build the kingdom.”

Yee and his wife, Mary, a pediatrician at Kaiser Permanente, have three children: Jordan Elliot, 17; Erin Jannica Mei, 12, and Caden James, 7.

If approved by conference delegates, tentative plans call for him to assume his new responsibilities late this summer.
