LONDON, ENGLAND (September 10, 2012) – Covenanter Elizabeth Stone captured two bronze medals at the Paralympic Games.

She took third in the 100-meter butterfly and the 100 backstroke. (Editor’s note: the video headline and the announcer refer to the backstroke race as the freestyle.)

She finished sixth in the 100 freestyle and eighth in the 400 freestyle and 50 freestyle. It was the first time the three-time Paralympian had qualified for the 50.

Stone grew up attending First Covenant Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where her mother is a member. Stone has lived at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs for the last two years.

This is the third Paralympics for Stone. She first competed at age 15 in Athens, Greece.
Her mother, Linda, adopted Stone when she was four years old and living in a Romanian orphanage.

Stone’s leg was amputated above the knee after four previous surgeries failed to correct a medical condition known as PFFD (Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency).
