Additional Camp Sessions Flooded Out at Covenant Pines

McGREGOR, MN (June 26, 2012) – Rising flood waters have forced cancellation of additional camp sessions this week at Covenant Pines Bible Camp, following closely on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that the Pathfinders session scheduled for Monday through Wednesday had to be cancelled.

The new cancellations include the popular Trailblazer 1 along with SWEAT 3, LIT 1 and Junior Counselors 2 and the Silver Beach Family Area.

“The water levels on Round and Davis Lakes continue to rise,” reports Bruce Peterson, executive director. Yesterday, water levels went up another 3-4 inches and water continues to encroach on the ball field, parking lot, Davis Lake trail and roads into and around camp.

“In consultation with the Aitkin County sheriff’s office and local agencies, they expect the water levels will continue to rise until Saturday,” Peterson said.

The most significant problems involve the Davis Lake cabins and bathhouse – accessing the cabins requires navigating through 12-14” of water for about 100 yards. The Davis Lake cabins house 70 campers.

“Unfortunately, our only other Trailblazer camp has been full for two months with a long waiting list,” Peterson said. “Many local camps have called to offer spaces for our campers. We know the value of sending kids to a Bible camp. Please look at opportunities that may exist, including the Christian Camp and Conference Association. Search for camps in Minnesota.

Staff members at Covenant Pines are all safe,” Peterson added. “We can just watch as the water slowly rises. Please pray for the kids that are impacted by the closure. For many kids, it is the highlight of the summer.”
