Kansas Church Not Damaged by Tornado

WICHITA, KS (April 16, 2012) – A member of The Journey (Covenant) Church suffered a broken toe, but his mobile home was not damaged when a twister packing winds up to 165 miles per hour slammed into the Pinaire Mobile Home Park on Saturday, interim Pastor Carol Roth advised Covenant News Service this morning.

No deaths were reported, but the damage to the Pinaire Mobile Home Park was extensive.

State officials said in a release that 57 mobile homes in the park were destroyed, 35 were damaged more than 50 percent, and 61 were damaged less than 50 percent. Photos appearing in the Wichita Eagle witness to the destruction.

A greenhouse located on church property elsewhere in the city suffered minimal damage, but the church was untouched. Sunday services were canceled due to power outages, Roth said.

The National Weather Service categorized the tornado as an EF-3. Nearly 100 tornadoes were reported across the Midwest, although an exact number has yet to be determined.

Members of Faith Covenant Church in Essex, Iowa, suffered minor damage to homes and farm property, they reported.
