Spiritual Direction Focus of March 23 Live Webcast

CHICAGO, IL (March 15, 2011) – Spiritual direction is the focus of the next scheduled live webcast from the Media Center at Covenant offices, to take place at 10 a.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, March 23.

Mary Miller, who recently served as director of the Making Connections initiative at North Park Theological Seminary, will serve as moderator of a four-member panel that will explore what spiritual direction is, what it hopes to achieve, and ways in which it is being effectively used by pastors, parachurches and other ministry leaders.

Viewers will have an opportunity to engage in a live side chat, posing questions for panelists to consider, offering observations and interacting with other viewers.

Scheduled participants include Lena Sanchez-Herrera, who serves with InterVarsity Ministries; Neil Taylor, who serves with Jesus People USA in Chicago; Darryl Griffin, senior pastor of Oakdale Covenant Church in Chicago, and Diana Shiflett, youth pastor at Naperville Evangelical Covenant Church in Naperville, Illinois. Other off-site participants may be joined to the discussion via Skype.

“Spiritual direction goes beyond fellowship,” notes Miller, who also serves as an ordained pastor in the Covenant. “Spiritual direction offers the opportunity for an individual not to feel alone on their spiritual journey. The Spirit can work through another person as individuals meet together.”

A link for joining the live one-hour webcast will be found on the live webcast page of the Covenant website. On the day of the live webcast, the banner on the website home page will connect viewers with the event. The webcast is a production of the Media Center in the Department of Communication of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
