Obituary: Charles ‘Chuck’ Johnson

LIBERTYVILLE, IL (February 17, 2016) — Retired Covenant pastor Charles “Chuck” Johnson died Friday, February, 12, 2016. He was 74.

chuck johnsonChuck was born on October 14, 1941, in Iron Mountain, Michigan, to Carl Walter and Anne (Erickson) Johnson. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from North Park College and an MDiv. From North Park Seminary.

He married LaVonne “Vonnie” (Bjorklund) Johnson on August 25, 1965. She survives.

He served at Ravenswood Covenant Church in Chicago, Illinois; Bethany Covenant Church in Stillwater, Minnesota; Vista Covenant Church in New Richland, Minnesota; First Covenant Church in Worthington, Minnesota; and First Covenant Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. After retiring, he served as pastor to seniors at Libertyville Covenant Church until his death.

In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter Renee Johnson (Mike) Borkowski, and son Bret (Susie) Johnson, and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Libertyville Covenant Church. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Memorials may be given to Libertyville Covenant Church or the church of your choosing.

  • Chuck was a dear friend. We served on Caravan teams during 1964-1965. I had great respect for him and his shepherding ministry. He was a gifted pastor.
