LAKE GENEVA, WI (October 4, 2015) – A fire damaged the Carriage House at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp & Retreat Center today, but no one was injured.

A staff member discovered smoke coming from the upper level of the building and called the fire department at 12:10 p.m., Executive Director Ray Warren said. The Lake Geneva Fire Department (LGFD) was on scene within five minutes.

“We are grateful that there were no injuries and that the Lake Geneva Fire Department and several other area fire departments were able to contain the damage to the Carriage House,” Warren said. He added, “It is premature to determine the cause of the fire at this time.”

The fire was contained to the second level – which actually serves as the main floor – and the attic, Warren said. The building serves as flexible meeting spaces for up to 200 people on the main floor and small group meeting spaces on the lower level during the retreat season. It was not being used by guests at the time of the fire, Warren said.

The fire is not expected to impact scheduled retreats. “During the period of time the building is off-line for repairs, our staff anticipates being able to host all groups scheduled to be on site through the winter using alternate meeting spaces,” Warren said.
