Summer Sunday Worship Series Set at Covenant Harbor

LAKE GENEVA, WI (June 5, 2014)—Sunday, June 15, is not only the first day of summer camps at Covenant Harbor; it also begins the 2014 Summer Sunday Worship Series that is open to the public through August 3.

The series has been popular with local members of the community as well as with Covenanters, some of whom drive several hours to attend, says executive director Ray Warren.

Last summer, Warren says, he greeted a family from Lake Geneva who told him it was their first time at the service. Before he could even ask what had prompted them to attend, the enthusiastic mother said,  “Our two sons attended day camp last week and woke us up this morning saying, ‘We have to go to the tent this morning at Covenant Harbor to hear about Jesus!’ So here we are and we will be back next week.”

Another attendee shared, “We enjoy driving up for the services because it is so refreshing to see the wide range of ages, the music is excellent, and hearing the summer staff share their experiences is just a blessing.”

Jerome Nelson, superintendent of the Central Conference, will be the featured preacher for the first service. At the end of the service, 80 summer staff will be consecrated for their role in ministering to the anticipated 2,500 campers who will attend camp this summer.

Sunday, July 27, has been designated Summer Staff Alumni Sunday. Dan Hinz, former summer staff and now pastor of Grassroots Church in Rockford, Illinois, will preach.  All former summer staff are invited to return to camp for the worship service. They will receive special recognition and lunch at the Lakeside Café.

The worship services in the tent on the waterfront begin each week at 10:30 a.m. For a list of all of the speakers, click here.

Dress is casual, lunch may be purchased or families may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy.  The beach is open until 4 p.m.
