Obituary: Gary Pierce

BATAVIA, IL (May 2, 2014) — A funeral service for Gary Pierce, the husband of Covenant Chaplain Sally Pierce, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Batavia United Methodist Church.

Gary, 74, was born June 27, 1939, in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, the son of Ralph and Elizabeth (née Morrison) Pierce.

He graduated from Berkshire Christian College in Lenox, Massachusetts, and studied at Gordon Theological Seminary. He served as pastor at Advent Christian and United Methodist congregations.

Gary and Sally were married August 24, 2007, in Batavia. She serves as chaplain at the Homlstad, a Covenant Retirement Community.

Survivors include four daughters, Stephanie McKay, Cherrill Gaul, Kristen Unterberg, and Meredith Wyman, 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening at the Moss Family Funeral Home in Batavia. Interment will follow the service at West Batavia Cemetery.

  • What a loss for all of Holmstad! Gary was our choir director and many other things! He filled in for pastors, spoke at special occasions, led Bible studies, etc. He was my friend, and I miss him already. He and Sally were such a good team!
