ARNOLD, CA (February 24, 2014) — They call themselves the “Do Wooders.”

For 25 years, a group of men from Chapel in the Pines, a Covenant congregation, have been cutting and delivering firewood to area residents who would not otherwise have heat.

Most of the men range in age from their sixties to eighties. “We have a lot of fun doing it,” Will Melhaff, who has been part of the group for 24 years, recently told TV station KCRA. “It gives us a purpose in living.”

The “Do Wooders” work twice a week and are able to cut, load, and deliver three cords of wood in less than three hours. They have delivered about 100 cords this season.

They estimate that they have cut and delivered nearly 3,000 cords over the 25 years, with a value totaling more than $635,000.

One resident told KCRA it was his only source of heat and would keep him warm for about a month.
