Friday Deadline for ‘Mission Detroit’ Registration

CHICAGO, IL (May 21, 2013) – Friday is the registration deadline to participate in “Mission Detroit,” a hands-on mission experience that will take place June 25-27, preceding the 2013 Annual Meeting of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).

So far, more than 150 people have registered, says Jill Ulven of the Covenant Events office. Click here for more information and to register for the mission experience.

Evelyn Johnson, ECC interim executive vice president, said she is thrilled with the response. “It’s Covenanters at their best – walking the talk and being open to listening and learning.”

Mission Detroit begins on Tuesday evening, June 25, with dinner, worship and orientation in Clark Park, which is within view of the historic Ambassador Bridge to Canada. On Wednesday and Thursday, teams will work side by side with Detroit church members in activities that include assisting a mobile medical/dental clinic, providing home repairs, teaching English to immigrants from at least a dozen nations, being immersed in an experience of living on the street, and participating in a Detroit version of “Sankofa.”

Visit the Mission Detroit website for the comprehensive list of opportunities. Participants do not need to attend the Annual Meeting.

Registration is $100 per person, age 13 and over; $250 for a family of three or more (two adults plus children) or when accompanied by a paying parent or guardian; and $50 for a child, ages six to 12.

The Annual Meeting will be held June 27-30. It requires separate registration and housing. Click here for more Annual Meeting information.
