Nominations Solicited for ACCW Awards

CHICAGO, IL (February 21, 2013) – Nominations are now open for the 2013 Advocates For Covenant Clergy Women (ACCW) Awards. Nominations must be received before May 1.

The organization presents six awards – three in alternating years – during the Evangelical Covenant Church’s Annual Meeting. “We authored the awards program in 2006 to highlight the faithful service of women clergy and their male colleagues who advocate for them,” said Catherine Gilliard, ACCW president.

This year’s awards are:

The Priscilla Pastorate Grant – awarded to a full-time female pastor regardless of title in a Covenant church and a pastor in good standing in the Covenant Ministerium.

The Anderson/Nordlund Missionary Scholarship – provides for
continued training and education, awarded to a full-time female missionary called by the Covenant, on assignment through the Department of World Mission and supported by a local Covenant congregation.

The Mordecai Award for Outstanding Partnership – honors a male colleague who has demonstrated active support of women in ministry through providing advocacy, resources, support, and dialogue on behalf of all women in ministry. Those eligible for the award include administrators, teachers, pastors, and missionaries.

  • This is a wonderful opportunity to honor both women and men who are being used by God to bring us into greater unity in Christ!

  • The Mordecai Award for Outstanding Partnership is a wonderful award category. The article states “Those eligible for the award include administrators, teachers, pastors, and missionaries”–but that list doesn’t include chaplains. Approximately 8.5% of all Covenant clergy are chaplains serving in one context or another–hospital, hospice, military, Veterans Affairs, correctional facilities, educational settings, Covenant Retirement Communities, corporate workplaces, and more….are chaplains also eligible for the award?

    • Yes, Jeff chaplains who have faithfully advocated for women clergy are eligible.

  • Nominating someone is a great way to to show that you notice their faithful service and to encourage them in their ministry! Part of advocating is celebrating together in the joys of ministry.

    • Thanks Julie! ACCW encourages all Covenanters to nominate someone for each award who faithfully leads or serves in ministry and advocates through demonstrated example their support of clergy women saying ‘yes’ to their call.
