Emanuel Medical Center CEO Honored

TURLOCK, CA (January 26, 2012) – John Sigsbury, president and CEO of Emanuel Medical Center, has been named “Business Leader of the Year” by the Turlock Chamber of Commerce.

Sigsbury led the largest expansion of Emanuel’s facilities and services in the institution’s 95-year history.

During the Chamber’s 44th annual Best of Turlock celebration last Friday, Emanuel Board Chair Jennifer Larson highlighted some of Sigsbury’s accomplishments. “Since coming to us in 2003, John’s leadership and vision have transformed Emanuel Medical Center and healthcare in this community,” she said.

“John oversaw the design and construction of a $30 million Critical Care Center. Later he formed a partnership with Stanford to open the Stanford Emanuel Radiation Oncology Center and also developed the outstanding Emanuel Cancer Center. Most recently, he spearheaded Emanuel’s effort to bring cardiovascular services to Turlock and this May, the first open heart surgery was performed at Emanuel.”

Sigsbury said he is humbled by the recognition and noted the contributions of others to the medical center’s advances. “That’s our biggest accomplishment,” he said. “We’ve created a partnership between the hospital and community that is committed to high quality healthcare and that partnership is what advances healthcare locally.”

As a business, Emanuel is one of the largest in Turlock, employing approximately 1,400 people.

In 2009, Sigsbury was selected to be a founding board member of the Council of Independent Hospitals. He is vice chair of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California, serves on the board of the California Hospital Association, and serves on the board of Cooperative Hospitals, Inc.

Emanuel Medical Center is a not-for-profit, community-based Christian hospital. Its 403-bed multi-level medical campus includes a 209-bed acute care hospital, a 145-bed skilled nursing facility and a 49-bed assisted living facility. It provides emergency, critical care, pediatric, cardiovascular services, cancer diagnosis and treatment, women’s health services, surgery, and hospice services.

The center was founded in 1917 and is operated by the Board of Benevolence on behalf of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
