SCH Medical Pavilion Work Remains on Schedule

CHICAGO, IL (January 4, 2012) – Work is proceeding on schedule for the new Foster Medical Pavilion on the campus of Swedish Covenant Hospital, which is scheduled to open this summer.

The eight-story structure will house an ambulatory surgery center, medical offices, and five levels of covered parking. An enclosed elevated walkway will connect the new building to the existing Professional Plaza building located on the east side of an alley separating the two structures. The plaza houses physician offices as well as x-ray and related laboratory services.

The 237,938-square-foot facility is enclosed with the majority of the work now focused on the interior build-out. Workers are installing elevators in each of the four towers along with stairwells. Interior walls and doorways are being constructed, with drywall installation estimated at approximately 40 percent complete.

Relatively mild winter weather has allowed exterior work to move along at a good pace, with all of the exterior glass and much of the finished exterior slabs in place. Roofing over the main entrance canopy is expected to be completed before the end of the month, with work beginning on framing in the parking garage lobby.

As one of the few independent, nonprofit hospitals in the area, Swedish Covenant Hospital – with 2,200 employees, 550 physicians and 250 volunteers – remains focused on its mission of providing compassionate care in a healing environment.

Swedish Covenant Hospital is administered by the Covenant Board of Benevolence on behalf of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
