Churches Provide Restaurant Atmosphere At Soup Kitchen

ATTLEBORO, MA – The Evangelical Covenant Church in Attleboro is one of two congregations that provide a monthly soup kitchen to struggling families, but the ministry is different than most other such outreaches.

The Family Cafes are family-oriented, and diners feel like they are in a restaurant. Several thousand people have been served, organizers say.

Saturday marked the first anniversary of the program. Waters Church, the other congregation serving meals, celebrated with a Spanish-themed dinner.

The cafes at Waters are held the last Saturday of the month at 6 p.m., while the cafes at the Covenant church are held the last Wednesday of the month, starting at 5:30 p.m. Door prizes are given away, and a disc jockey plays music throughout the evening.

The dinners are organized in conjunction with the Attleboro Area Council of Churches’ Food ‘n’ Friends Program. For more information, click here.
