Four Timothy Johnsons in the Covenant – Surprised?

ST. PAUL, MN (June 28, 2010) – Timothy B. Johnson, pastor of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Bloomington, Minnesota, enjoyed the festivities Saturday on Raspberry Island that were part of the denomination’s 125th Annual Meeting.

So also did Timothy G. Johnson, Covenant missionary to Japan.

The same for Timothy J. Johnson, the former Covenant archivist and current member of Excelsior Covenant Church in Excelsior, Minnesota.

Ditto for Timothy L. “Yak” Johnson, associate professor of ministry at North Park Theological Seminary.

Three of the four have in common not only the same first and last names, but also a rich tradition in Covenant vocational ministry. Timothy B. is the son of former Covenant pastor Norbert Johnson. Timothy G. is the son of former pastor/missionaries Gordon and Lucille Johnson. Timothy J. is the son of Pastor Jerome Johnson.

It was only fitting that they all gathered at the meeting in St. Paul, named for the apostle who mentored the disciple sharing their first name, which means, “honoring God.”
