Registration Opens for Lake Geneva Benefit Walk

LAKE GENEVA, WI (May 27, 2010) – Walks of up to 26 miles around Lake Geneva to benefit New Day for Children are being sponsored by Women Ministries of the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Women, men, and children are invited to participate in the July 10 event, which is part of this year’s Break the Chains project. The day will conclude with a lakeside dinner.

Participants can choose from a selection of distances to walk. Walks of five and 15 miles will be designated. Participants also can tag-team portions of the walk as teams.

Registration is $50 per person regardless of the walk’s length. People walking as part of teams still pay the full registration. Each walker will receive a Break the Chains shirt.

Participants can run instead of walk, but must realize that the event is not categorized as a race as the course is not appropriate for that purpose, emphasizes Cherith Anderson, assistant director of adult ministries at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp & Retreat Center and the event’s organizer.

Walkers should register as an athlete at the Break the Chains website and provide the requested information:

  • Name of Race: Walk to Break the Chains
  • Location: Covenant Harbor
  • Date / Length of Walk: July 10, 2010 / 26, 15, or 5 miles
  • Confirmation ID: Leave blank

Individuals can sponsor a walker by registering online. Choose a specific athlete or leave that space blank.

Volunteers also are needed. For more information, email Anderson or call 262-745-6257. New Day is a ministry seeking to rehabilitate the lives of girls rescued from sex slavery.
