New Twist On Soup Kitchen Outreach

TWISP, WA (January 14, 2010) – The Methow Valley Community Covenant Church will open “His Bread and Bowl Dining Room” on Tuesday to serve free soup lunches to anyone in the community.

The church plans to make the lunch a weekly event at Tappi Restaurant. Church volunteers will make the soup at the restaurant.

The lunches will include bread and dessert. Guests also will be treated to live guitar music and cribbage boards will be available for entertainment. The food is free, but donations will be accepted.

“We’ve all had tough times – this is a way for us to get involved and bless others,” comments Nancy Wellman-Picolet, chair of outreach and evangelism for the church, in a local newspaper article.

Volunteers from a local food bank had told Wellman-Picolet they had been providing groceries to more than 80 families.

“My heart’s desire cried out to help others and create a soup kitchen for those in need, young and old,” Wellman-Picolet said. She had traveled to Africa two years ago and lived in Mozambique for three months, spending time feeding kids. “I knew I’d bring back something.”
