Caenisha is known for her passion for justice and racial reconciliation as well as her ability to build relationships with college students. She mentors students and facilitates intergroup dialogue on justice and reconciliation. “I find true life in allowing people the safety and acceptance ‘to be’—to embrace that truth, challenge its depth, and journey along with them as they discover themselves. This is quite an extraordinary honor.”
A few years ago she gained custody of her teenage brother, who says, “Caenisha has an incredible personality. She lives out her faith in her life and occupation.”
Her grandfather just celebrated his forty-seventh pastoral anniversary at the church where she grew up. When she came to the Covenant she learned what a denomination is. “I often tell people that I am not an either/or kind of person—I am a both/and person. I believe some of the effectiveness of the Covenant is due to its willingness to do both/and—working from the top down and the bottom up toward change.”
Her pastor Liz VerHage says, “Caenisha is a leader and cares for many others, from her family, to the church her grandfather pastors, to students at Seattle Pacific University, to friends and youth she teaches at church. She’s dynamic, faithful, a role model to many, and both teaches and lives out reconciliation and justice.”

Books on your nightstand/e-reader: (I’m a very slow reader so these are the books I’m in between.) Spaces for the Sacred, Philip Sheldrake; Mobilizing for the Common Good: The Lived Theology of John M. Perkins, Peter Slade, Charles Marsh, and Peter Goodwin Heltzel; Exclusion and Embrace, Miroslav Volf; The Next Evangelicalism, Soong-Chan Rah; Catching Fire, Suzanne Collins
Favorite way to relax: Lately I have been in a veg state watching TV/movies, but I should read from my book pile or exercise. What I do enjoy is hanging out and catching up at a coffee shop with a friend or mentor, watching movies with my brother, hanging with family, and naps.
Favorite TV show: Gilmore Girls and presently Scandal
