PLANTATION, FL (February 3, 2010) – Covenant Village of Florida announced that Charles W. Johnson has been named the Covenant Retirement Community’s executive, and Judith I. Johnson (no relation) has been named its health care administrator.

Charles Johnson is responsible for all operations at Covenant Village, which serves 390 residents in 202 apartments, a 44-room assisted living residence and a 60-bed Medicare and Medicaid-approved skilled nursing center. He directs a staff of approximately 200.

Charles Johnson has served as interim residential administrator since June 2009. He previously was a residential administrator at Covenant Village of Turlock, a sister community in Turlock, California, for five years.

Judith Johnson is the former executive director of Covenant Village of Florida. In her new post she is responsible for directing all departments of the community’s 60-bed superior-rated skilled nursing center and its 44-room assisted living residence. She supervises a staff of 106 and reports to the executive director.

A registered nurse, Judith Johnson joined Covenant Village of Florida in 1999 and served as director of the assisted living residence, associate administrator and executive director.

Covenant Village is a nationally accredited not-for-profit continuing care retirement community established in 1977 to serve the needs of senior adults in Broward County. It is administered by Covenant Retirement Communities on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Central Conference Seeks to Honor Church Member, Distribute Grants

CHICAGO, IL (February 3, 2010) – The Central Conference is accepting nominations to honor a person who has given outstanding Christian service in the area of compassion, mercy, and justice to their church and community.

The new award, which will be presented annually, is a combination of the J. William Fredrickson Urban Ministry Award and the David A. Larson Town and Country Award, which were presented on alternate years. The new award is called The Central Conference Compassion, Mercy, and Justice Award in honor of J. William Fredrickson and David A. Larson.

Leadership Matrix Provides Offers Training, Networking

OLYMPIA, WA (February 3, 2010) – The North Pacific Conference is sponsoring Leadership Matrix, a daylong conference for pastors and volunteers to be held March 6 at River Ridge Covenant Church.

The conference will include plenary sessions and seminars to develop strong congregational leaders. Registration is $35 per person. For four or more people from one church, the registration is $30 per person.

Seattle Pacific University Honors Covenanter for Service

SEATTLE, WA (February 3, 2010) – Seattle Pacific University honored Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC) Senior Vice President Rebecca N. Townsend with the Medallion Award during the alumni awards luncheon held Thursday. The school gave the award in recognition of Townsend’s more than 20 years of service to CRC as well as to the university.

In addition to her work with CRC, she assists with strategy development at the retirement communities’ parent corporation, Covenant Ministries of Benevolence.

Townsend is a member of Mercer Island Covenant Church in Mercer, Island, Washington.
