CHICAGO, IL (June 4, 2014) — Friday is the last day to register for Experience Chicagoland, which will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 23–25, in Chicago and surrounding communities extending as far as Rockford, Illinois, and Madison, Wisconsin.
Experience Chicagoland will offer many opportunities to engage in service projects such as working at a food pantry, helping with a community garden, and tutoring students. Tours to the National Museum of Mexican Art and Cambodian-American Heritage Museum and Killing Field Memorial will be offered, and several overnight immersion experiences also will be available.
Experience Chicagoland is part of Gather ’14, which also includes the denomination’s Annual Meeting. It will take place that Thursday through Saturday at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.
The success of last year’s Mission Detroit—the first time the denomination sponsored a large-scale mission project prior to the Annual Meeting—inspired organizers to offer even more choices this year.
Churches that participated in last year’s event found that it led to more local involvement in their home communities. Inspired by their experience in Detroit, DeerGrove Covenant Church members led the church to partner with several other nonprofits in their community.
Registration can be done online.
