SPOKANE, WA (October 8, 2010) – Spokane Police are investigating the death of former Evangelical Covenant Church pastor David W. Thorin, 71, who died September 18.
Thorin served Bethany Covenant Church in Warren, Michigan, and Minnehaha Covenant Church in Spokane. Most recently, Thorin attended First Convent Church in Spokane and was active in a ministry to the homeless.
Thorin’s daughter, Anita Reynolds, told the Spokesman-Review that her father died from a head injury he suffered in a fall while jogging. An autopsy revealed that he also had three broken ribs.
Police are looking for a motorist who called police around 6:45 a.m. to report a jogger lying on the ground. Detectives hope the motorist can provide additional information that might help them determine whether Thorin fell, was struck by a car, or was assaulted.
Medical personnel said Thorin was unable to tell how he was injured, according to one report. He later died at a hospital. Thorin had been considered in perfect health and ran several miles each day. He also was a regular volunteer at Spokane Valley Partners food bank.
Thorin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Midge, and their two children: a daughter, Anita Reynolds, and a son, Peter Thorin. A memorial service was conducted September 25. Memorials can be made to the First Covenant Church Feed the Poor ministry.
