ORLAND PARK, IL (September 2, 2016) – The Peder Hedberg Foundation will hold its final golf tournaments in the next two weeks as it nears its goal of raising $250,000 for organizations that serve children with special needs.
The foundation was started six years ago, shortly after Peder, a Covenanter and North Park University alumnus, died of primary sclerosing cholangitis and cholangiocarcinoma at the age of 23.
Because of Peder’s love for children with special needs and Christian camping, the foundation has funded recreation programs for children with disabilities and special needs in ten south suburban Chicago communities as well as at Pilgrim Pines Conference Center in Swanzey, New Hampshire. To date the foundation has raised $194,700.
Two major fundraisers have been golf tournaments. Hope Covenant Church in Orland Park, where Peder’s family attends, has sponsored one local tournament for six years, and another tournament has been held for five years on the East Coast.
The final Chicago area tournament will be held at Palos Country Club on September 10. The East Coast tournament will be held September at Quarry Ridge Golf Center in Portland, Connecticut.
More information on the events and the foundation can be found at its website.

Glad for the goal’s being reached. So terribly sad about the reason!
