Obituary: Raymond Nyquist

WHEATON, IL (March 31, 2016) — A memorial service for retired minister Raymond Nyquist, 84, will be held Saturday, April 16, at Faith Evangelical Covenant Church. He died March 11.

raymond nyquistRaymond was born December 2, 1931, in Chicago, to Arthur and Esther Nyquist, the youngest of seven children.

As a young teen, Raymond was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was sent to Denver for treatment, which took six years and several surgeries, leaving him with less than one lung. He went on to graduate from North Park University and then North Park Seminary.

Raymond served the Church of the Good Shepherd Evangelical Covenant Church in Crest Hill, Illinois; the Evangelical Covenant Church in Patterson, California; St. Luke’s Christian Community Church, a Covenant congregation, in Morton Grove, Illinois; and St. Paul’s Evangelical Covenant Church in Franklin Park, Illinois. He also served two United Church of Christ congregations in the Chicago area.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hazlett Nyquist; his daughter, Jennifer (Adam) Blum; son, Timothy; stepdaughters, Susan Powers and Kathleen (Chris) Prokopiak; four grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren, as well as his former wife, Elaine.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. before the memorial service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to North Park University, 3225 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, IL 60625-4895; or to Faith Covenant Church, Wheaton, 2001 Lakeview Drive, Wheaton, IL 60189.
