WESTMINSTER, CO (January 8, 2016) — Retired Covenant missionary Alene (Collini) Anderson, 94, died this morning. Services are pending.
Alene was born August 12, 1921, in Buffalo, New York. She attended the University of Buffalo and graduated from North Park Bible Institute. She also attended the National College of Education.
Alene married Leland Anderson on September 14, 1945. The couple served in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (then Belgian Congo) from 1946 to 1975.
While in Congo, they served in Bokada, Businga, Bolenge, Gbado, and Gemena. In 1973 the government of then Zaire gave them the Medal of Civil Merit.
After the couple left Africa, Leland served as pastor of Covenant churches in Clay Center and Alert, Kansas. The couple also returned to Africa two times to serve as short-term missionaries.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, January 14, at the chapel of Covenant Village of Colorado. A private family service will be held at Garfield Cemetery outside of Clay Center.
