EDMOND, OK (December 7, 2015) — Life.Church announced this weekend that its YouVersion Bible app has now been installed 200 million times.
When YouVersion launched in 2007, it offered 12 Bible versions in English and Spanish. The church, an Evangelical Covenant Church congregation, has worked with numerous publishers so that it now offers 1,200 versions in more than 900 languages, some of which also are available as audio downloads.
Many of the translations, such as the New International Version, are free while others are paid downloads. On a website developed to celebrate the milestone, the church states that 36 billion chapters have been read, and five billion audio chapters have been listened to. The website declares that the church has the goal of making the Bible available “to every person on Earth, no matter where they live or what language they prefer.”
The website lists the most popular verse read in several countries. In the United States it is Romans 12:2 in the NIV: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
The app also includes devotionals and lesson plans on numerous subjects, and the church reported in a press release that 40 million of those have been completed. Additional features include access to videos and movies along with some social features.
