KEENE, NH (October 28, 2015) — The funeral service for retired Covenant minister Richard (Dick) J. Nelson, 77, will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, at the Monadnock Covenant Church. Burial will follow.
Dick was born September 8, 1938, in Escanaba, Michigan, and grew up in the community. He earned a bachelor of philosophy degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky; a master of divinity from North Park Seminary; a master of arts in history from Mankato (Minnesota) State University; and a master of counseling from Keene State College.
He married Edith E. Petersen on September 7, 1964, at Ravenswood Covenant Church in Chicago. She survives.
Dick was ordained in 1965 and served Covenant congregations in Butte, Montana; Hector, Minnesota; and Orange, Massachusetts. He then worked 20 years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor for the state of New Hampshire.
He was a charter member of Monadnock Covenant and served in many different capacities.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by two daughters, Kristin Karlson and Amy Almer; two sons, Tim and Mark; and 12 grandchildren.

I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Dick Nelson. Dick was faithful colleague in ministry , a good and caring friend and a true servant of our Lord. His irenic spirit and good humor were always a joy to be around. My sincere sympathy and prayers are with Edith and the family. Peace to his memory.
