CHICAGO, IL (November 25, 2014) — Enrollment in the Bethany Benefit Service health insurance program is open until February 15, 2015. The time frame coincides with the government Marketplace deadline to enroll in coverage.
The Bethany program provides coverage for pastors, employees of local Covenant churches and regional conferences, conference centers and camps, Covenant pastors who work for voluntary employers of the Covenant Pension Plan, and denominational offices. Medical/dental coverage is available for employees who work a minimum of 20 hours a week.
Elliott Johnson, assistant director of pensions, said, “It’s important for anyone purchasing insurance to consider the total financial exposure of the policy both to the employer and the employee.” For example, he said, the employee’s total out-of-pocket costs should be considered when determining which coverage to purchase.
Johnson noted that for more than a decade, Bethany rates were held flat or were a fraction of increases compared to other providers. There was no increase in premiums in 2005 and 2014.
Churches or individuals interested in learning more about participating in the program may call Bethany personnel at 1-800-313-8955. Information also is available at the Bethany Benefit Service website.
