CHICAGO, IL (June 12, 2014) — Registration for Experience Chicagoland has been extended to next Tuesday, June 17.

The event will be held Monday through Wednesday, June 23–25, in Chicago and will offer many opportunities to engage in service projects and participate in immersion experiences. Participants also will learn how they can apply experiences to their own communities.

Organizers decided to stretch the registration period because several churches said they still wanted to participate and wanted the same opportunity to be given to others.

Experience Chicagoland is part of Gather ’14, which also includes the denomination’s Annual Meeting. That meeting will take place the same week Thursday through Saturday at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare.

The success of last year’s Mission Detroit—the first time the denomination sponsored a large-scale mission project prior to the Annual Meeting—inspired organizers to offer similar opportunities this year.

Churches that participated in Detroit found that it led to more local involvement in their home communities. The experience Deer Grove Covenant Church members had led the congregation to expand and strengthen its ministries by partnering with several other nonprofits in their community.
