Applicants Sought to Lead Covenant Youth Ministries

CHICAGO, IL (December 5, 2013) — The search for a new leader of youth ministries for the Covenant is underway, and officials hope to fill the position by Midwinter 2014.

The person chosen for the position will succeed Marti Burger, who has been called to be the new director of Covenant Events.

“The Evangelical Covenant Church is known broadly for its exemplary youth ministry,” said Doreen Olson, executive minister of the Department of Christian Formation. “Our influence is valued and our expertise sought after, both nationally and internationally.

“Recent development of the Youth Ministry Network—through which youth workers are known, connected, and resourced—effected a transition to a more distributed form of support for the locus of our ministry, and the local church,” Olson added. “As a denomination, we stand on the precipice of an exciting new season. In this next phase we expect by God’s grace to see our increasingly diverse mosaic meaningfully engaged in all aspects of ministry as we advance the mission and bridge to the future. Youth ministry is a natural leading edge toward that desired outcome.”

“The time is right for new leadership to emerge,” Burger said. “Many of our Youth Ministry Network facilitators and leaders have dreams and visions about the future of youth ministry in the Covenant. I am excited to see how God will work through this opening to bring youth ministry into a next phase.”

Anyone interested in applying for the position should email a cover letter and résumé by December 30 to Human Resources. Others also may submit names to the same email address by December 18 for consideration.
