Event for Those Who Grieve During Holidays

TURLOCK, CA (October 10, 2013) – Hospice of Emanuel will sponsor “Coping with the Holidays” to help people who have lost loved ones get through the season. The event will take place November 1 at 7 p.m. at the Monte Vista Chapel and is free and open to the public.

“The loss of a loved one can be a very difficult time during the holiday season,” said Sandy Ricardo, the hospice support service coordinator. “For some it becomes an unbearable time of year. Hospice is aware of the obstacles facing the bereaved, and has put together this program to help.”

This year’s event will feature a panel of people who have lost a spouse, a child, and a parent. Each of the panel members will speak specifically to how they grieved during the first few holidays after their loss, emphasizing what helped.

There also will be a memory table, where people are invited to place a framed picture of their loved one.

Hospice of Emanuel offers free grief support to anyone in the community. Programs include one-on-one grief support as well as support groups for loss of spouse, bereaved parents, general loss, young adults, as well as a support group for people who have lost someone to suicide.

The sale of Emanuel Medical Center to Tenet Healthcare still is pending. Hospice services for patients and their families will continue as a Covenant ministry under the new name CovenantCare Hospice, a division of CovenantCare at Home.
