CHICAGO, IL (March 25, 2013) – The Association of Covenant Camps and Conference Centers has chosen Covenant Kids Congo as their mission project for the summer.

Each year the camps join together to sponsor a mission project that is usually associated with serving a camp in a mission field or a children’s ministry.

Covenant Kids Congo is the historic undertaking by the Evangelical Covenant Church, World Vision U.S., World Vision Congo, and the Congo Covenant Church (CEUM) to invest millions of dollars in Gemena, Democratic Republic of Congo. The funding will enable a holistic ministry that will include initiatives focused on clean water, health and hygiene, food and agriculture, education and literacy, and economic development.

“The need is very great and it is important not only that the project be accomplished for the sake of children in the Congo, but also so that the children here in North America will learn that they can make a difference in Christ’s name, to change the world, and advance the Kingdom of God,” says Bill Fish, associate director of Covenant Point Bible Camp.

Dave Snyder of World Vision U.S. recently said of Congo, “There is no question that the poverty I saw and experienced in Gemena is unlike anything I have experienced on my previous visits to sub-Saharan Africa.” He noted Gemena is a city of 300,000 people without a single paved road, a bank, or a restaurant. So far, Covenanters have sponsored 5,000 children in Congo. Organizers hope to have 10,000 children sponsored by October this year.
