Relief Fund Matching Grant Offer Announced

CROMWELL, CT (November 8, 2012) – The East Coast Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church will match contributions by conference churches and members to its hurricane relief fund up to a total of $25,000.

Supplies unloaded for distribution

Superintendent Howard Burgoyne announced the matching grant Monday in an email to church leaders.

“In these earliest days and weeks, the primary need is for financial resources,” Burgoyne said of those victimized by recent storms along the east coast. “This makes help readily available, and stimulates the economy in the affected zone as supplies are secured locally.”

Funds will be distributed to Evangelical Covenant churches and their ministry partners, Burgoyne said. Members of several Covenant congregations in the area have been helping to distribute food, gas, and other items.

Their work will continue past the immediate relief efforts. “The recovery will be measured in months and years not in days and weeks,” Burgoyne noted.

Checks sent to the conference office should be marked “hurricane relief.” Donors can contribute through East Coast Conference and Covenant World Relief donations pages.
