SAN DIEGO, CA (September 7, 2011) – Mount Miguel Covenant Village captured top honors in two categories of the 2011 San Diego Union-Tribune’s “San Diego’s Best” readers’ survey of businesses and organizations.
Mount Miguel was voted “San Diego’s Best Retirement Facility” and “San Diego’s Best Assisted Living Facility.” The dual honors were announced last Thursday.
The awards mark the second time in the past three years that Mount Miguel has received a “San Diego’s Best” honor. The Covenant Retirement Community, located in the San Diego suburb of Spring Valley, was also voted “San Diego’s Best Retirement Facility” in 2009.

Mount Miguel Covenant Village is operated by Covenant Retirement Communities on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Oldest Church In Northwest Conference Celebrates 140 Years
PENNOCK, MN (September 7, 2011) – Salem Covenant Church recently celebrated its 140th anniversary.
Founded in 1871, Salem is the oldest active congregation in the Northwest Conference and predates the formation of the denomination by 14 years.
The church celebrated the milestone August 20-21. Saturday began with games and supper in the park followed by a night of music and testimonies in the sanctuary. Donn Engebretson, executive vice president of the denomination, was the preacher on Sunday morning.
Well over 200 people participated in activities at the park and 200 attended the testimonial service that evening, says Pastor Mike McCain.
Former pastors Lloyd Melvie and Phillip Griepp spoke about their time serving the church. Pastor Kevin Melin of Cross View Covenant in Mankato, Minnesota, who grew up and came to Christ at Salem, shared memories of his years at the church.
Cannon Attends Global Summit On Ministry To Children
SINGAPORE (September 7, 2011) – Evangelical Covenant Church minister Mae Cannon is one of the delegates to an international summit being attended by more than 700 Christian leaders from 92 countries this week.
“The 4/14 Window Global Summit is an initiative intended to focus minds and hearts on reaching, equipping, and empowering children and youth – particularly those aged 4-14 years old – to transform the world,” says Cannon.
Cannon was chosen as a delegate because of her work with Compassion International in Israel/Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan over the past year. Cannon was formerly the executive pastor of Hillside Covenant Church in Walnut Creek, California. She also is the author of the Social Justice Handbook: Small Steps for the Better World, which won the Resource of the Year Award in 2010 from Outreach Magazine.
This is the third year for the summit. Cannon says it has the potential to make a difference in churches and communities around the world by networking Christian groups, pastors, and leaders and mobilizing people to increase and improve ministries with children.
