CHICAGO, IL (September 30, 2010) – Signs are being erected on the facility housing offices of the Evangelical Covenant Church on West Higgins Road, reflecting the familiar Covenant blue background and logo.Covenant offices relocated from the former 5101 North Francisco Avenue location on September 13.
Work continues on reconstruction of the main floor area of the building that eventually will house conferencing space, a reception area, and production, bookstore and mailroom operations. Work on other floors has been completed, for the most part.
Employees gathered Wednesday morning for the first of weekly chapel services, which drew on passages relating to the body of Christ and applying that imagery to the goal of working harmoniously together as staff, recognizing the special gifts each individual brings to the whole.
“As you think about the body and its systems, which part of the body do you think your ministry area – your office or department or institution – most closely represents?” asked Doreen Olson, executive minister of Christian Formation who offered the meditation.
“My point this morning isn’t really to equate each of our roles to a particular system or part of the body,” Olson continued. “But to get us thinking of the essential integration of the body parts – the way each needs to relate to the other in order to promote health and growth of the whole. Each of us has need of the other in order to function properly and fulfill our role.”
The music complemented the “In It Together” theme as well – “This Is a Day of New Beginnings” and “We Are All One in Mission.”
The Covenant Executive Board meets this weekend in Chicago, beginning with a tour of the new Higgins Road facility Friday afternoon and continuing through late Sunday afternoon.
