CHICAGO, IL (August 16, 2010) – North Park Theological Seminary has announced the speakers and dates for the fall convocation and the Nils W. Lund Memorial Lectures.
The speaker for the convocation will be David Kersten, executive minister of the Department of the Ordered Ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church. The service will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, in Anderson Chapel on the North Park University campus.
The annual Nils W. Lund Memorial Lectures will be presented September 22-23 at Isaacson Chapel. The lectures are given in two parts. Part one begins at 9 a.m., and part two begins at 10:45 a.m.
Michael Gorman, dean of St. Mary’s Seminary and University, will present the first two lectures. His overall theme will focus on “Re-imagining Justification.” The first lecture will be “Justification as Resurrection from the Dead.” The second will address “Justification and Justice.”
William P. Brown, professor Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary, will give the two lectures on the second day. Brown’s theme will be “Wisdom’s Wonder.” The lectures will be “Wisdom’s Wonder I: Proverbs, Paidieia and Play” and “Wisdom’s Wonder II: Where the Wild Things Are (in Job).”
The Lund Lectures are free and open to the public. The lecture series is funded by the Lund Memorial Scholarship in memory of the former dean and biblical scholar who served at the seminary from 1922-1954.
