Three Nails
bulletin cover
The design for Good Friday depicts three nails piercing through the surrounding contextual frame. The off center design is intended to create visual tension as a reminder of the anxiety associated with the dreadful events of the evening while the drops of blood remind us of Christ’s death upon the cross. Our distress resonates within the words of the Apostle Paul, “But God proves His love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). The Roman Numerals “XL” denote the numeric value of “forty,” the number of days observed for the season of Lent. In remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice, the church uses the somber colors of black and scarlet for worship.
