SHOREWOOD, MN (January 8, 2010) – Funeral services for retired Evangelical Covenant Church Pastor Donald Elmberg, 85, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Albin Chapel in Eden Prairie. He died December 29.

Elmberg was born March 21, 1924, in Minneapolis. He married Jean Creighton on January 8, 1949. She preceded him in death.

Elmberg served in the Pacific Theater during WWII where he suffered an injury that permanently impaired his vision and hearing. He later graduated from Augsburg College and Bethel Seminary.

He was ordained by the Evangelical Covenant Church in 1978. Elmberg served as a chaplain at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, from 1976-1977. He then became the first-ever chaplain at the Hennepin County Chemical Dependency Treatment Center and also served at the Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center in St. Paul until his retirement in 1996.

Survivors include his daughter, Dawn Hannigan. His son, Mark Elmberg, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be observed one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery.
